Know thyself…

Winchmore Hill became a party street today, a big wheel right in the centre, and a stage on the green, Morris dancers in the street…Art… Music, food, clothes jewellery, gin! Everything in abundance and people crowded, packed together, enjoying the summers warmth… Perfect for the occasion.

I could hear the merriment outside the peace of our beautiful walled garden. Anadi had gone to meet a friend for a coffee, and I stayed in the leafy cool solitude of our little stables home for awhile. I stretched and did my routine of step ups press ups and more… I planned to run later and so I went into the garden to see what the day might hold… I saw Octavious who had just finished his breakfast, and then my dueña Nina appeared at her french windows, and instead of braving the bustle and the hustle we chatted together in the garden…

In the main about the preference for introversion, for needing the space, the peace…. How important it is to honour, and embrace the introvert, both within if that is your preference but also in society…

Acknowledge and accept the folk who prefer to be alone, who don’t enjoy a party or a crowd… Or to whom a party or a crowd exhausts rather than energises…

Know thyself… There are some of us who love nothing more than to be in a room with people, on a green with people, at a festival, a gathering, a joining together… The energy can build and multiply and delight and energise… And that is a joyous thing…

But then there are some of us, who need the silence of solitude, or the sounds of nature, not a person in sight (or only a few…!) or to be one to one with a special other.. Who get energised by silence, stillness being alone…

There is no right way… There is your way. And that can of course be a changeable thing… Both places give an experience, a place to know more aspects of ourselves, to see where tension builds, to see where expansion occurs, where joy bubbles, where exhaustion occurs.

For this can happen in the space of aloneness, when instead it takes on the guise of ‘loneliness’… As well as in the space of a group… Tensions can arise, doubts, insecurities, self consciousness, lack of confidence… All states that need noticing, investigating can happen within every situation imaginable…

Clearing the tension, means it is easier to be where we really want to be, as it will emerge from the truth of ourselves.

Anadi appeared back home, as Nina and I were chatting, so then he and I made our way out onto the Green… We walked through the fun, the energy of Saturday song and dance… We took in the sights, the smells, the sounds…

We walked through it all… ‘It’s like a mini festival…’ Anadi commented.

We then made our way to the pub on the corner of the green and ate salad and drank coffee and watched the Saturday around us… Wimbledon on the television, alcohol flowing, chocolate brownies with ice cream, plates laden high… Children running, crying, falling, laughing…
The pub got busier and busier… Louder and louder…

And so we came back to our tranquil garden, where Octavious greeted us in his quiet welcoming way…

Later on we once more entered the throng…

More people than ever now, from the tranquil calm to the fiesta fun we moved… We made our through to go running on the fields next to Sainsbury’s…! Where three matches were playing… The sun was starting to drop low in the sky as we circled the pitches to the resounding thwack of the ball on bat… It felt like we were running through the ‘set’ of the scene of a typical English Saturday afternoon…
